Denver, CO, Melanie Starkman, President/Executive Director of Board of Denver Fisher House Foundation, has been recognized by Elite American military for dedication, achievement and leadership in nonprofit work.

Ms. Starkman is a disabled Marine Corps Veteran who dedicated seven years of service to the military, serving as a sergeant and in various roles. She was inspired to join the military by her father, who was a veteran. She continues to honor him today through her work with the Denver Fisher House Foundation.

Ms. Starkman got involved with the Denver Fisher House Foundation after leaving active duty. She was looking for a volunteer opportunity for veterans and wanted to get involved with veterans’ affairs. Ms. Starkman came upon an opportunity with the Denver Finisher House Foundation and has been working for the organization since 2010. The organization acts as a home away from home for active duty military and veteran’s families during medical treatment.

She truly cares about other people and will go out of her way to comfort them. Ms. Starkman draws on her own military experience to build relationships with veterans and guide them along their journeys. For her work, she received the Good Conduct Medal in the USMC, and the Anschutz Family Foundation Scholarship for the Colorado Resource Center Nonprofit Leadership and Management course. Looking toward the future, Ms. Starkman intends to stay with the Denver Fisher House and continue developing programs and services for veterans and their families.
